Here we have a meticulously preserved 1947 Olds Super trumpet, which is the model played by jazz legend Blue Mitchell on his acclaimed album "The Thing to Do." This shows the legendary craftsmanship and characteristic of F.E. Olds & Son's mid-20th-century instruments.
This trumpet appears to be in 100% original condition with no evidence of damage or repairs. The valves are original with quick, smooth valve action and excellent compression.
It features dual "trombone-style" water keys and distinctive baluster bracing on the valve block (one on the right, two on the left).
The brass tone ring is inscribed with "Super Olds Made by F.E. Olds & Son Los Angeles, California U.S.A."
It includes the rare adjustable first slide saddle and nickel bracing, contributing to its classic aesthetic.
One of the truly unique aspects of this sale is the amount of original items and accessories that are included. It comes with the original case with fully functional latches, an Olds #3 mouthpiece, a music lyre featuring the OLDS logo, original valve oil with dropper, and slide grease tube in their original packaging.
We have offered quite a few trumpets that we considered "time capsules," but we've never offered one with a pristine 77 year old bill of sale, appearing as if it were written yesterday! Additionally, it comes with a selection of sheet music and books from the 1940s and 50s including "Big 10 Fight Songs."
Opening this case, holding the bill of sale, the original accessories, and then playing this remarkable trumpet is like stepping back in time. And to top it off, the trumpet plays like a dream. Our friend Trent Austin said this when describing a 1940s Olds Super "classic, crisp sound with modern playability, so much fun to play, tons of spin and character."
Don't miss this unique opportunity to own this 1940s time capsule!
