Burbank Benge 5X ML With Rare Haynie Pitchfinder Thumb Trigger

This is a very rare find! It is a Burbank Benge 5X Medium Large (ML) trumpet with a rare pitchfinder trigger created and installed by John Haynie. The trigger is operated in both directions by the players left thumb. The trigger moves, the main tuning slide in and out, providing precise tuning of the full horn.

This horn is in excellent condition. It was purchased by Heritage from the original owner who was a student of Mr. Haynie’s at UNT where the trigger was installed. 

This is the only B-flat Benge trumpet known to have had a Haynie trigger installed. The other is a Burbank C trumpet. 

There is no red and no evidence of previous damage/repairs. The pistons have matching serial numbers and brass valve guides. There is some surface wear on the second piston only. However the compression in all 3 valves is very good.

Haynie served as the trumpet professor at the University of North Texas for 40 years. He was a respected teacher, researcher, author, and innovator. You can read more about him here:
