This is a rare Martin Committee Deluxe trumpet from 1948. This one has the #2 bore which was the most popular model.
The Deluxe model features a combination of brass and nickel-silver. It also has ornate floral engraving on the bell.
All of the slides move freely. The valves are cosmetically in excellent condition. The compression is very good for a 75+ year old instrument. The slides have a nice “pop” when pulled.
Prior to my ownership this trumpet was refinished in an antiqued brushed/satin finish. The overall finish is beautiful but it is not perfect. There are some spots that are uneven and inconsistent. That’s purely cosmetic and doesn’t impact the playability of the trumpet. There is also some evidence of repair to the bell crook that you can see in one of the photos.
The horn plays very well and definitely has the classic “Martin Committee sound” that was sought after by so many jazz legends like Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Wallace Roney, and more.
To get a Deluxe Committee from this era under $3,000 is rare.
